Whether you're leading an organization through a crisis, grieving a loss no one around you seems to understand, or running on empty after years of giving everything to others — you already know that information alone won't get you through it. You need someone who has been there. Someone who knows the way forward. That's why we do this work.
I spent 30 years running toward other people's crises.
I'm Dr. Kevin Ellers — a grief and crisis specialist, coach, and educator who has spent four decades walking alongside people in their hardest moments. I've sat with disaster survivors, guided first responders through unimaginable loss, and been trusted with some of the most private and painful chapters in high-profile people's lives. I trained thousands of responders, directed national programs, and showed up — again and again — for people in their worst moments. What I didn't see coming was my own.
Burnout has a way of arriving quietly. And when it did, I discovered something that changed everything: real transformation doesn't come from pushing harder. It comes from going deeper.

Today, I work as a guide — not just an expert.
There's a difference. An expert tells you what they know. A guide walks with you through what you're facing — because they've faced something like it themselves. Over 30 years serving as the Territorial Disaster Services and Chaplaincy Director for The Salvation Army's U.S.A. Central Territory, training thousands of crisis responders through ICISF and the K-LOVE Crisis Response Care program, and authoring multiple books and curricula used nationally — including Hope and Healing for Grief and The First 48 Hours — I've built the kind of authority that only comes from showing up, over and over, in the hardest rooms.
But credentials don't transform people. Relationship does. That's why, through RESET Coaching and the Institute for Compassionate Care, I walk alongside pastors, executives, first responders, and senior leaders who are navigating grief, crisis, or major life transitions — and who are ready to move from surviving to flourishing.
How I Work
Over 40 years of research and practice, I've developed an approach that goes beyond talk. Real healing often requires reaching the places that words alone can't access — the deep subcortical, body-based, and spiritual dimensions of who we are. We have often lost the power of early spiritual practices designed to help us reset, heal, and flourish. I draw on some of the most effective tools available today, including Havening, Brainspotting, sound therapy, and equine-assisted coaching — woven together into a process designed around you, not a program designed for everyone.
You don't have to figure this out on your own.
If you're ready to stop managing your pain and start building toward what's next, I'd love to talk.
